Schools in nature

SPRING AND AUTUMN SCHOOL GROUP PROGRAM

Maribor’s Pohorje adorns itself in its signature green, inviting young and curious explorers to discover the vast forests and lose themselves in the countless wonders of unspoiled nature. The Šumik primeval forest offers children a whole new perspective on the woods, while the Skalca waterfall is the perfect backdrop for unforgettable photos. Along the way, they might even spot the giant peacock moth, Europe’s largest butterfly, which has found its home in our forests.

A walk to the popular viewpoint Trikotna jasa will reward the children with a panoramic view of the city of Maribor and let them run free across wide meadows.

Pohorje is especially welcoming to curious young minds who join a variety of kids’ camps – from football, hiking, and scout camps, to fun group activities and enriching nature-based learning experiences as part of the school curriculum.

WINTER SCHOOL – YOUTH GROUP PROGRAM

The resort is located just 300 meters from the upper part of Slovenia’s largest ski resort, Maribor’s Pohorje, which offers an impressive 41 km of ski slopes. Right here, on the children’s slope, many young skiers take their first turns on snow and get their introduction to skiing.

Accommodation is perfectly suited for school groups – spacious multi-bed rooms and apartments come with bedding and towels, giving children a sense of freedom and independence. The catering service is excellent, with diverse and generous buffet-style meals. There is also a dedicated children’s dining area in the restaurant, occasionally visited by celebrity chef Gregor Jager, well-known to kids from the TV show Mali šef Slovenije.

Children can enjoy skiing in the morning and afternoon, and on select days, even go for night skiing.

Access is simple and convenient – buses can bring the group right up to the hotel entrance.

The STANDARD OFFER for the selected accommodation throughout the year includes:

• carefully selected, child-friendly and QUALITY NUTRITION throughout all meals
(breakfast, lunch, dinner), since as a resort we have committed to include as many local products as possible in the culinary offer;
• use TWO CLASSROOMS (for up to 50 people), which are fully equipped with all the necessary technology and ensure undisturbed socializing;
• SWIMMING IN THE HEATED POOL with natural water of Pohorje and a panoramic view of the forest;
• COMMON MULTIPURPOSE SPACES that can be used in case of bad weather or for organizing evenings full of fun.

            Green heroes program

            At Pohorje Village Wellbeing Resort, we organize a friendly competition among schools staying with us as part of the “Nature school groups” program. This competition is not only fun, but above all, a meaningful way to raise young people’s awareness of environmental protection and sustainable practices. We believe that youth are the key drivers of the changes we need for a greener, more sustainable future.

            As proud holders of environmental certificates such as the Green Key, we recognize the responsibility we bear as a tourist destination. Our efforts to reduce environmental impact are part of our everyday operations – through recycling, energy reduction, water conservation, and responsible waste management. We take pride in educating our visitors, especially children, about the importance of these practices in preserving nature for future generations.

            A quick overview of the competition categories

            The competition will include several categories assessing how environmentally conscious students are and how responsibly they treat nature and resources during their stay at the resort.

            Categories include:

            • Weighing food waste

            • Waste separation

            • Room cleanliness and tidiness

            • Respect for order and quiet time

            The school that demonstrates the strongest commitment to sustainable practices throughout their stay will be awarded a special prize – a free excursion with an engaging program, swimming, and a snack prepared by chef Gregor Jager.
            Additionally, the winning school will get to choose from a fun activity based on our adult teambuilding programs, adapted for schoolchildren. They can pick between the “Treasure Hunt” or the “Pohorje Relay”.

            All participating students will also receive a family pass to our swimming complex as a token of appreciation for their efforts.

            Each school will receive feedback and a certificate of participation, and the winning school will receive special recognition. Together, step by step, we’re making a big difference for a greener future.

            Let’s become green heroes – we look forward to welcoming you!
